ABOUT

The Outreach chair at SHPE - UIC are dedicated to inspiring the next generation of leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Through interactive programming, community engagement, and educational events, we aim to increase awareness and access to STEM opportunities for K–12 students and their families.

Outreach initiatives focus on:

  • Encouraging early interest in STEM careers

  • Providing hands-on learning experiences

  • Supporting underrepresented communities

  • Empowering families with educational resources

  • Building long-term community partnerships

 
 

Día De Ciencias / Equipando Padres

Equipando Padres and Día de Ciencias are bi-annual outreach programs designed to empower families and students with knowledge about STEM education pathways.

Equipando Padres (EP) focuses on parents and guardians by providing:

  • Information about college preparation

  • Financial aid resources

  • Academic planning guidance

  • Support tools to help students succeed

Día de Ciencias (DDC) is a student-focused STEM event featuring:

  • Hands-on engineering and science activities

  • Workshops and demonstrations

  • Mentorship from college students and professionals

  • Exposure to STEM career opportunities

Together, these programs help families understand how to support students pursuing higher education and STEM careers.

 
 

SHPE JR

SHPE Jr. outreach initiatives focus on engaging high school students through school visits and mentorship opportunities.

Activities may include:

  • Classroom STEM workshops

  • Engineering design challenges

  • College preparation discussions

  • Student panels and mentorship

  • Information about joining SHPE Jr. chapters

The goal of SHPE Jr. outreach is to build confidence, provide role models, and create pathways for students to pursue STEM degrees.

Community Partnerships

SHPE UIC collaborates with schools, community organizations, and industry partners to expand access to STEM education and resources.

We welcome opportunities to partner with organizations that share our mission of empowering underserved communities through education.
